Mk 6:2-6: "And
when the sabbath day was come, he began to
teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him
were astonished, saying, From whence hath
this man these things? and what wisdom is
this which is given unto him, that even such
mighty works are wrought by his hands? Is
not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the
brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda,
and Simon? and are not his sisters here with
us? And they were offended at him. But
Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not
without honour, but in his own country, and
among his own kin, and in his own house. And
he could there do no mighty work, save that
he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and
healed them. And he marvelled because of
their unbelief. And he went round about the
villages, teaching".
Mt 13:54: "And
when he was come into his own country, he
taught them in their synagogue, insomuch
that they were astonished, and said, Whence
hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty
works? Is not this the carpenter's son? is
not his mother called Mary? and his
brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and
Judas?
And his sisters, are they not all with us?
Whence then hath this man all these things?
And they were offended in him. But Jesus
said unto them, A prophet is not without
honour, save in his own country, and in his
own house. And he did not many mighty works
there because of their unbelief".
Lk 4 16-24: "And
he came to Nazareth, where he had been
brought up: and, as his custom was, he went
into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and
stood up for to read. And there was
delivered unto him the book of the prophet
Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he
found the place where it was written, The
Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he
hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the
poor; he hath sent me to heal the
brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the
captives, and recovering of sight to the
blind, to set at liberty them that are
bruised, To preach the acceptable year of
the Lord. And he closed the book, and he
gave it again to the minister, and sat down.
And the eyes of all them that were in the
synagogue were fastened on him. And he began
to say unto them, This day is this scripture
fulfilled in your ears. And all bare him
witness, and wondered at the gracious words
which proceeded out of his mouth. And they
said, Is not this Joseph's son? And he said
unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this
proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever
we have heard done in Capernaum, do also
here in thy country. And he said, Verily I
say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his
own country".
