Galilee (Netufa valley)

The Netufa valley is located in the center of the Lower Galilee, north to Nazareth. This wide valley, about 16KM (10 Miles) by 4KM (2.5 Miles), is a fertile valley and its name, Netufa, is based on the Hebrew root word "Nataf" ("dripping" of water or of oil).

In some "wet" winters the valley fills up with water, or gets really muddy and swampy, since the water from the surrounding hills accumulates in the valley's flat basin, and hardly manages to make the journey out towards the bay of Haifa.

An ancient trade road extended from Hannathon and Sepphoris toward Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee. Jesus must have passed this site on his frequent travels between his home town, Nazareth, and his base of activities in Capernaum.
